The Trooper is a song by the English heavy metal band Iron Maiden, single of their 4th studio album Piece of Mind released in 1983.

« Into the valley of death rode the six hundred. Cannon to right of them, cannon to left of them, volleyed and thundered, 'The Trooper.' »; this is with this quotation from Tennyson that is generally introduced the track during the shows by the frontman Bruce Dickinson.

This song is indeed based on a Lord Tennyson's poem, The Charge of the light brigade relative to the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 during the Crimean War.
