Bannière Aerosmith

Hard Rock

Formed in 1970 in Boston, Aerosmith stands as one of the most iconic hard rock bands in American history, often nicknamed “The Bad Boys from Boston.” Fronted by the charismatic Steven Tyler and guitar legend Joe Perry, the band blends raw energy, sensuality, and groove in a unique mix of blues rock, hard rock, and glam metal. Their self-titled debut album (1973), followed by Get Your Wings (1974) and the legendary Toys in the Attic (1975), firmly established their sound with timeless classics such as “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way.”

Rise, fall, and rebirth

Despite their meteoric success, the late 1970s saw Aerosmith struggle with internal tensions and excess. Joe Perry’s temporary departure and Steven Tyler’s addiction issues led to a period of decline. Yet the band made a spectacular comeback in the 1980s, notably with their 1986 collaboration with Run-D.M.C. on “Walk This Way,” a groundbreaking fusion of rock and hip-hop that reignited their global career. Albums like Pump (1989) and Get a Grip (1993) cemented their status, with massive hits including “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Cryin’,” and “Crazy.”

Worldwide success and musical legacy

In 1998, the ballad “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” written for the film Armageddon, became their first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. With over 150 million albums sold, four Grammy Awards, and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, Aerosmith remains the best-selling American hard rock band of all time. In 2023, they announced their farewell tour, “Peace Out,” which was paused after a few shows due to Steven Tyler’s health issues — yet their legacy endures, spanning five decades of pure rock energy and influence.
