Bannière Darkthrone

Black Metal

Darkthrone are a cornerstone of Norwegian black metal, founded in 1986 in Kolbotn. Originally a death metal band, the duo of Nocturno Culto and Fenriz made a radical shift in 1991 to become one of the defining forces behind the “true Norwegian black metal” movement.

Their legendary trilogy — A Blaze in the Northern Sky (1992), Under a Funeral Moon (1993), and Transilvanian Hunger (1994) — laid down the foundations of a raw, minimalist, and icy sound, stripped of any compromise or embellishment. Their deliberately lo-fi production became a hallmark, inspiring countless bands worldwide.

Faithful to their DIY ethos and notorious for their rejection of conventional interviews and tours, Darkthrone developed an enduring underground mystique. Over the years, their music has embraced elements of crust punk, doom, and old-school heavy metal, while remaining unmistakably black and pure.

On MusikMachine, you’ll find several embroidered patches featuring Darkthrone’s iconic imagery — perfect for expressing your devotion to uncompromising, frostbitten black metal ❄️
