Bannière Gojira

Death Metal

Gojira is a French progressive and extreme metal band formed in Bayonne in 1996 by brothers Joe (vocals, guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums). Originally named Godzilla, the band quickly gained attention for its technical precision, atmospheric soundscapes and eco-conscious themes exploring spirituality, humanity and the planet’s fragility.

Terra Incognita (2001) laid the foundations of their sound, but From Mars to Sirius (2005) catapulted them to global recognition — a masterpiece of heavy riffs, intricate rhythms and deep lyrical meaning. Follow-up albums The Way of All Flesh (2008), L’Enfant Sauvage (2012), Magma (2016) and Fortitude (2021) confirmed Gojira as one of the most innovative metal acts of their generation.

Renowned for their technical prowess and breathtaking live performances, Gojira stand alongside Meshuggah, Opeth and Tool as leaders of modern progressive metal. Their appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympic opening ceremony cemented their global reach and cultural significance.
