Bannière Mayhem

Black Metal

A cult and foundational band of the Norwegian black metal scene, Mayhem was formed in 1984 in Oslo and quickly became one of the most controversial names in metal history. Led in its early days by Euronymous, the band stood at the epicenter of the 1990s black metal wave, defined by sonic violence, macabre aesthetics, and real-life tragedies — including the suicide of vocalist Dead and the murder of Euronymous by Varg Vikernes.

Their 1994 album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas remains a cornerstone of the genre, blending icy atmospheres, dissonant riffs, and a haunting, infernal aura. Preceded by the raw and furious EP Deathcrush (1987), Mayhem set the standard for uncompromising black metal both in sound and image.
