Formed in Florida in the late ’80s, Obituary is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of American death metal. Led by John Tardy’s unmistakable guttural vocals and Trevor Peres’ razor-sharp riffs, the band quickly established a heavy, crushing sound that became their signature.
Their debut album Slowly We Rot (1989) shook the extreme metal world, followed by Cause of Death (1990) and The End Complete (1992), which became one of their biggest commercial successes. With their grim logo and dark artwork, Obituary became both a visual and sonic icon of old-school death metal.
Despite several hiatuses, the band remains true to its roots, releasing relentless albums and touring the world with their trademark raw intensity.
